WHAT IS THE PELVIC FLOOR?

The pelvic floor is a bowl-shaped group of muscles, fascia and ligaments that that sit at the base of the pelvis.  This system both supports our pelvic organs (the bladder, uterus and the rectum) and closes the openings. It also plays a role in posture, hip stability and core stability.

The pelvic floor helps us to control our bowel and bladder.

Seek help from a pelvic PT if you are experiencing:

  • Frequent urination or an urgent need to go to the bathroom

  • Urinary leakage

  • Constipation

  • Bowel incontinence

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Pelvic pain or pressure

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pain with pregnancy

  • Postpartum issues

  • Tailbone, lower back, or hip pain

“Amazing experience! I couldn't recommend Angie enough. Everyone should see a pelvic floor therapist after birth and the people of Marble Falls are priveleged to have Angie available to us.  You will not leave with regret!"

Rebekah D.

HOW CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP?

Pelvic floor disorders are common but that does not make them normal!  You don’t have to live with the symptoms. Our physical therapists are specialty trained in pelvic floor disorders. We help patients identify the problem with their pelvic floor and develop a customized treatment plan to correct the issue.

Pelvic floor therapy is a non-surgical solution that may include:

  • Exercises to identify and strengthen the pelvic floor

  • Proper breath and relaxation techniques

  • Soft tissue mobilization and myofascial release to address muscle imbalance

  • Core strengthening exercises

  • Joint mobilization â€‹

  • Self-care education including diet and lifestyle changes that can help improve symptoms.
